New leadership in area communities

St. Cloud voters elected city council member Jake Anderson as Mayor with 51.7% of the vote versus city council member Mike Conway’s 47.5%.  Anderson replaces retiring Mayor Dave Kleis, who is the city’s longest serving mayor (20 years) and chose not to seek reelection.

St. Cloud voters also elected three new people to their City Council: Tami Calhoun, Mark Johnson, and Scott Brodeen all earned at-large seats. Long-time incumbent George Hontos finished fourth and out of the running.

St. Cloud voters also approved two ballot questions.

  • Voters approved changing city elections. Starting in 2029, city elections will shift to odd years.
  • Voters approved property tax funding for a new fire station on the city’s south side near Tech High School. It is expected to cost $43.5 million.

St. Joseph voters elected Adam Scepaniak as Mayor with 44.4% of the vote in a three-way race. Kelly Beniek and Adam Schnettler won city council seats.

Sartell voters elected Pat Lynch and Rustin Deters to two city council seats.

Sauk Rapids voters elected Jason Ellering for Mayor with 57% of the vote, defeating challenger Nick Sauer. Dottie Seamans and Clinton Holmgren narrowly won the two city council seats. David Rixe finished third.

 Waite Park voters chose Ken Schmitt for Mayor to replace Rick Miller who decided not to seek reelection. Schmitt and his opponent, Mike Lindquist, are both current council members. Schmitt beat Lindquist by just 81 votes.
