THE NEW INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR TESTS AND WHAT THEY MEAN FOR YOUR BUSINESS

Join the CMBA Government Affairs Committee, Tuesday, February 18, 8:00-9:00 a.m., at the CMBA offices as we visit with Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) Senior Labor Investigator, Michelle Fournier, about the soon-to-be implemented new set of Independent Contractor tests stemming from last year’s Worker Misclassification law.

CMBA has previously held meetings and posted articles about this issue, including a meeting with several DLI staff late last year. However, as implementation approaches, more CMBA members have expressed major concerns with how to interpret the new set of 14 Independent Contractor tests, how to comply without destroying important subcontractor relationships, what new documentation do they need, what is their liability for subcontractor compliance, what are the penalties for non-compliance, what is DLI’s approach to enforcement, how to avoid losing their businesses in the face of these new rules, and more.
