Minneapolis Federal Reserve - Spring Construction Sector Survey Results

Survey shows continuing challenges for the construction sector

A couple of times each year, the Federal Reserve reaches out to construction companies through organizations like the CMBA, to find out how things are going in our industry. CMBA has been partnering with the Fed on these surveys for years.  This year's spring survey, completed in May, indicates construction firms across the upper Midwest continue to face challenges, along with a few bright spots.

The spring survey shows deepening concerns about the overall health of residential and commercial construction companies, but also shows some improvements in industry conditions as labor shortages ease, inflation moderates and supply chain issues improve. Residential and commercial construction firms across the Ninth District (MN, WI, SD, ND and MT) reported deepening revenue challenges, and increased project cancellations mainly due to economic uncertainty.
